BEGINNING THE PROCESS
Treatment starts with a phone call. The first step to positive change is to gather your thoughts, take a breath and call us.
Our admissions staff works tirelessly with each client to assess the unique challenge they are facing. Our clinical staff performs an assessment for each client so that they can understand your family history, and determine whether The Fourmula is the best fit for you. Upon admission, family members and loved ones are encouraged and invited to participate in the treatment process.
An individualized, unique course of treatment is designed for each adult entering our concurrent treatment program. In addition to emotional/psychological problems and substance abuse issues, the assessment will identify each client’s readiness to change. We aim to identify any difficulty a client may be having in terms of age-appropriate life cycle expectations, relationships, career goals, parenting, financial, social and spiritual issues.
Involvement of family members and/or significant others is an integral part of treatment at The Fourmula. Our concurrent treatment approach is implemented for family members to address patterns of unhealthy communication, understand family roles, and identify any issues of co-dependency. Emphasis is placed on developing the foundation for wellness, responsibility and accountability in all aspects of each client’s life.

Stages of Change
According to Prochaska & DiClemente’s Stages of Change, studies have shown that only a small percentage (generally less than 20%) of people are ready to take action to change. As a result, patients begin at the Pre-contemplation stage (I don’t have a problem), unless they demonstrate that they have moved past this stage to the Contemplation or Preparation stage. Lasting change is not sudden but occurs over time and is not always linear. Time spent in each stage is variable, but the focus and assigned tasks which help the patient to move to the next stage is not. Validation of the patient’s position in each stage is crucial, while providing information that challenges the patient’s beliefs and attitudes.
Clients are encouraged to honestly identify where they are in the change process. Treatment plans then focus on the client completing tasks required to move to the next stage, rather than to the final goal. By implementing various types of therapy, our program enables each client to develop self-efficacy, which decreases resistance. When people truly understand change and are ready for it, this assists in the progression from one stage to the next and reduces the possibility of relapse or development of new problem behaviors or symptoms.
